FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH PRESCHOOL POLICIES

AGE REQUIREMENTS

ALL children must be 3 or 4 years of age BEFORE September 1st.

ALL children must be COMPLETELY potty trained & no longer wearing pull-ups. (If your child is wearing pull-ups, this is an indication that they are not emotionally and/or developmentally ready for preschool. Please do NOT send a child in pull-ups.)

REGISTRATION

There is a non-refundable registration fee of $25.00 due at the time of registration.

TUITION PAYMENTS

Three year olds              $110.00 per month

Four year olds                $125.00 per month

Tuition is due by the 7th of each month.

Payments must be by check or money order (please do not send in cash).  Have your tuition in an envelope with your child’s name on the front.  Please hand-deliver the envelope to either Miss Barb or Miss Cindy.  Do not leave the envelope in your child’s backpack.

ARRIVAL

Plan to arrive between 8:50 AM – 9:00 AM

Pull up to the back door of the church located in the alley between the church and Greensburg/Hempfield Library. (Please enter the alley from  Third Street). Cindy or I will greet you and escort your child up to the classroom. If you arrive before the above stated time, please pull into the parking garage, wait for Miss Barb and Miss Cindy to open the back doors and then walk your child to the back door where Miss Barb and Miss Cindy will escort your child to the classroom.

PLEASE KEEP THE ALLEY OPEN FOR THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC!

Saying “good-bye” at the door and permitting the child to enter the building alone will encourage independence and help the teacher to begin the classroom activities on time.

When you leave, please make sure that you or an authorized person can be reached by telephone that day.

Please notify us, in writing, if someone OTHER than an authorized person will be picking up your child/children on that day.

*** NO TOYS OR PERSONAL ITEMS  This creates distractions for the students.  Miss Barb and Miss Cindy need to focus on the children, not the toys.  Also, the toys and personal items can be broken or lost.

DEPARTURE

Plan to arrive  for pick-up between 11:20 – 11:30 AM

Pick up is at the same location as morning drop off.  (The alley between the church and Greensburg/Hempfield Library).  Miss Cindy and I will be at the back door to meet parents, grandparents, etc. with the children. If you arrive before the above stated times, please park in the parking garage, wait for Miss Barb and Miss Cindy to open the doors, and walk to the door to greet your child.

Be prompt.  It is very upsetting and frightening to your child/children when you are late.

AGAIN, PLEASE KEEP THE ALLEY OPEN FOR THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC!

Only authorized persons may pick up your child.

For the safety of your child, we will not release him/her to an unauthorized person. You must notify us, in writing, at arrival time if someone other than an authorized person will be getting your child/children.

UNTIL THE STAFF BECOMES FAMILIAR WITH PERSONS PICKING UP THE CHILDREN, PHOTO I.D. MAY BE REQUIRED.  Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

FOUR YEAR OLD CLASS ONLY:

On Wednesdays – Our church hosts a luncheon that is open to the public (On Wednesdays only). The luncheon patrons use the alley and parking garage. Therefore, pick-up on Wednesdays for the 4 year old class will be between 11:20 – 11:30 AM on Third Street. There are three metered parking spaces that we pay to reserve that will have white bags over them. Please pull into these parking spaces.

HEALTH INFORMATION

A health report form, signed by your physician, is required before the first day of school.

ILLNESS

For the well being of the other students and staff, we must request that your child remain home if he/she has a fever, severe cough or cold, diarrhea, a communicable disease, or has been vomiting in the past 24 hours.

Your child may attend with a rash ONLY with a physician’s note stating that the rash is non-communicable.

ABSENCE

Please notify the office if your child/children will be absent for that day.

ACCIDENTS

We are equipped, trained and certified in CPR and in first aid techniques.  Serious problems will be called into 911 promptly and the parents will be called.  Minor accidents, bumps, bruises and booboos will be treated as needed along with some TLC.  The staff involved will complete an accident report and will notify the child’s/children’s parents or authorized caregiver at pick up time.

DRESS

Young children learn best through hands on activities.  For this reason,  the child should dress for vigorous activity.

Please do not send your preschooler in flip-flops or crocs without a strap on the back of their heels.  Climbing three flights of stairs with flip-flops is dangerous because a classmate following behind can step on the back of the flip-flop/croc and cause a fall.

PLEASE SEND AN EXTRA SET OF CLOTHES TO SCHOOL JUST IN CASE THERE IS A NEED.  PLACE THEM IN A PLASTIC BAG WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME ON IT.  We will keep it here at school and will return it at the end of the school year.

BOOK BAG OR BACKPACK

Please send your child to school with a book bag or backpack every day.  This is a teaching tool that will help your child develop organizational skills and responsibility.

SNACK

We will provide a light snack and drink.  If you would like to provide one at some time, please sigh up on our snack calendar.

 EMERGENCY CLOSINGS/SNOW DAYS

 THREE YEAR OLD CLASS

Closing   We will follow the Greensburg Salem School District schedule, since our preschool is located within the district – if Greensburg Salem is closed, we are closed also.

Delays   If Greensburg-Salem has a 1 or 2 hour delay, we will delay as well:

1 hour delay – start at 10:00 AM and end at 12:30 PM

2 hour delay – start at 11:00 AM and end at 1:30 PM

(note: Greensburg rarely has a 1 hour delay)

We can run on a 2 hour delay because we only have a morning session. If we have a 2 hour delay, please have an early lunch before school starts to hold the children until 1:30 PM (we will snack, but this will not be enough for a meal).

Safety is our first concern for our preschoolers and their families.

We will make up snow days as best we can; however, we are not mandated to have 180 days of instruction.
